Assignment #33

In this essay, I Earl Dube will brainstorm three creative ways to take a picture of a photo. Do something to the photo, no snapshots because before you take the snapshot you must give the picture meaning. Every picture is worth a thousand words. Why would a photo have an emotion though and how could you show it? Take an apple for example, a ripe and healthy apple has a happy emotion. A rotten and shriveled apple has a sad emotion. Take a stress ball for example. When squeezed and snapshotted it has a angry and enraged feeling. When held and snapshotted it has a calm emotion. But why would a photo have an emotion? Well to show that it has importance and really every picture is worth a thousand words. Give more examples of how to show emotion. When taking a snapshot don’t center the picture use the two-thirds method. Why? To show that in the picture something is being done or shown (emotion). This basically leads up to the way a ameture takes a picture and how a expert takes a picture. For when an expert takes a picture they make sure it shows emotion and that it has meaning. Like Pepon Osorio’s picture of El’ Chandelier. Use angles when taking a picture and take many different photos of that one object. This way the angles can represent different views of the photo, and you don’t have just one to wok with.In this essay I have explained to you many ways you can give emotion to a picture. Now grab that camera and get to it!

Pepon Osorio, “El Chadelier, and Earl Dube

May 20, 2008 by squearl

Pepón Osorio was best known for large-scale installations. He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, on May 22, 1955. He was educated at the Herbert H. Lehman College in New York, and he received an MA from Columbia University in 1985. Osorio’s pieces were influenced by his experience as a social worker in The Bronx it eventually evolved from an interaction with the neighborhoods and people among which he is working. My name is Earl Dube I am a student at Arts Academy in the Woods High School and I will identify a piece of Pepon Osorio’s art that I will be reflecting on. The piece of art I will be reflecting on of his ownership is “El Chandelier (The Chandelier),” 1988. I will be dicussing my reaction my point of view, and my issues with his art that went into the making of “El Chandelier”.

El Chandelier is a very creative piece for when I first gazed upon it I needed a closer look. Why? Well because from such a small internet picture perspective all I saw was a junky old regular chandelier. However with a closer view I realized the art that went into this beautiful chandelier. The chandelier to my surpise was sewn together from recyclables and useless knick-knacks.My second glimpse of this piece in a much bigger form was astounding as I relished the creativity of how trash along with determination can be woven into a beautiful chandelier and whether or not it works this is still wonderful art.

However why would I pick this piece? My first glance of it was negative because of its torn-down looks from such a small form. Well have you ever heard of “curiousity kills the cat”, or “never judge a book by its cover”? I knew for one thing that art is never negative its always positive you just need a better eye of perception towards the art. So I used the curiousity of a cat and the knowing of to never judge a book by its cover to give myself a second glimpse of El Chandelier. As promised my both the view was nothing less than extraordinary.

I have told you who Pepon Osorio is, I have told you who I am, I have told you one his art pieces, and I have told you two helpful words of wisdom. Clearly Pepon Osorio’s piece of art El Chandelier is just another example of how trash can truly be treasure if woven together with determination.

If there was a fire at say 3:00 in the morning in your house what would you grab?

May 19, 2008 by squearl

If there ever was a fire in my house there would be three things I would take out and save from the inferno:

1.Me

2. My pet bunny Snowball

(optional) 3.  My Drawings

Why?

1.My life is irreplacable

2.Snowball is my pet and I will not let another thing claim the life of my pet whether an infection of the tooth, or a raging inferno

3. My imagination is priceless
